Hi Roy and Claire
I wanted to thank you on behalf of our PTA and school for a fantastic afternoon of Ferret racing yesterday at Great Kingshill School. Everyone enjoyed it and it was so well organised and family friendly everyone has said that we should do it again next year!!
I hope that Roy, you and the team have got over the loudness of the afternoon.
Thank you so much for a really memorable event.
We lost our ferret Reg today & reported it to STA rescue straight away. A few hours later we received a call - a ferret had been found in our area!! Thankfully, it was our Reg & he is now home safe.
We cannot thank STA rescue enough for all their help today. We seriously thought we'd never see our little man again but thanks to some very caring people that found him & cared for him & the support of STArescue he is back home where is a very loved little boy :)
This is such a well present ed site, clear and easy to nagivate, with lots of good information for new owners and 'old hands'.
Its updated regularly which is a real treat as many other sites are'nt and their information is out of date.
I just enjoy looking at the events pages and seeing everyone furry and non furry having such a good time ! Please keep up the good work.

Hi John, glad you like the site.
From my own experience there appears to be no completely ferret safe solutions when it comes to open fires, as the fire safety guards themselves can become very hot, and whatever type you go for the ferrets will try to climb the guard. Also with the fine mesh versions it is possible for little claws to become stuck in the guard itself. Whatever you go for make sure thethe guards/screens completely cover the fireplace opening (top and sides) and are secured into the wall, so have to be lifted/released before they can be moved AND that the ferret cannot squeeze between the wires or guard and wall itself. Even with wood/fuel burners/stoves you really need a fire guard/screen infront to prevent inquisitive furbies getting up too close and burning themselves. The guard will also help when the fire is not in use stopping the fuzzies from exploring the hearth or chimney!
So best advice is get a good enclosing fire 'safety guard' and make sure you supervise your ferrets when they are out playing around that area. Also make sure that any logs stored in the vacinity are stacked safely so that if your ferrets do clamber on them the logs cant roll and crush them, and that coal, fire lighters and matches are stored out of reach.
Hope this helps.
Hi,
I have aa large problem with our three ferrets who live in the house with my wife and dog. We like coal and log fires and need a proper fire guard (ferret proof) to stop them from getting scorched or burnt.
Do you have any ideas please?
I like the site very much.
John
