In December 2010, Swindon Police's Lost and Found Department received a call about a ferret that had been found, so the Dog Van was despatched to collect the ferret and place him into safe custody.
The poley hob was very friendly, but vastly underweight and dehydrated, so it was touch and go as to whether he would survive. He had been found close to where young albino jill had been found the week previous which had been handed into our Swindon volunteer, so is very likely that these were a pair that may have escaped or been released.
Fortunately this poley boy had landed on his feet as the Inspector who collected him is a ferret enthusiast and was able to help him recover, so much so that he's too wide to go rabbitting at the moment!
Anyway, as no one made enquiries with us, the RSPCA, local vets or the Police force as to their loss, the poley hob has been adopted by the Inspector and recruited into the Marlborough Police Ferret Team (so named as his ferrets used to live at the station in Marlborough), and the albino jill has also been rehomed and enjoying her new life in Oxfordshire, so happy endings for both.
