This video shows some of our former residents having fun...
They are sociable, fun-loving bundles of energy, who will give their owners endless fun and boundless love.
However, they are not for everyone. They are NOT pets for children, or people of a nervous disposition. When they play, they play hard, and a fun nip is common place, even amongst the gentlest of ferrets. When ferrets play with each other, their play consists of rough-and-tumble, and that is how they like to play with us. Unfortunately, our skin is a lot thinner than our furry friends, so a nip, however unintentional, can hurt!
Please, please do your homework when considering taking on a pair of ferrets (we always re-home in pairs as ferrets are far happier when there’s more than one).
Read books, go online, talk to people like myself who have ferrets, visit a rescue so you can see how they should be looked after, and arrange to have a play with some. Go on a Ferret forum, there are several good ones.
Please don't be tempted to buy a ferret on a whim from the local paper. Most importantly, don’t be tempted to get a kit if you have never had ferrets before, as they are unpredictable bundles of fur, and more importantly, teeth!
Below are just some of the ferrets who are now ready for rehoming.
KENNY - another albino hob, is 1-2 years old. Found wandering in the middle of nowhere and absolutely filthy, he is very friendly and a real character, who has happily teamed up with Gypsy, and together they make an ideal pair of first time ferrets.
GYPSY is an adorable poley-mitt jill, about a year old. She's very pretty and full of fun. She and Kenny have joined up together and would make an ideal pair of first time ferrets, as they are both really good natured.
ZIGGY and PETTY are big, boisterous bini boys. They look identical, but are not brothers. They originally came in as kits in 2010 (so will be 2 yrs old this year) and are inseparable. Ziggy is the laid-back member of the pair, while Petty will still give the odd nip. They are very playful and were much loved and looked after by their owner, who unfortunately wasn't able to keep
them. Super boys.
WESTON is a lovely bini hob, about 1 year old. He was a stray picked up in Weston-Super-Mare, so is a well travelled boy. He's very friendly and has been well - handled. As he was castrated only recently, it will be a few days before we can try mixing him, but I don't think it's going to be hard finding him a friend.
ALBA is a gorgeous albino jill, about 3 years old. She came in as a stray, and is very nervous, but not bitey, She won't mix, so is desperate for a home that can give her security as a single lady, but with no children or other pets, where she can be given time to 'find her feet'. When she feels confident she comes out to play, but loud noises worry her. She has the makings
of a fabulous 'one-to-one' fuzzy.
SOPHIE, SMUDGE & SPIKE - These gorgeous ferrets, mum of 2 years and her babes of 20 months, need a loving home together as all three suffer from separation anxiety when separated.
Anyone adopting the trio will need lots of time and patience to gain the trust of the youngsters as they are quite nervous and skittish, hiding at loud noises or quick movements, and may nip. But all three are fully of character.
A lot of work has already been done with these ferrets to bring them to point where they can be picked up and know that hands are NOT for chewing. They need lots of space to bounce off their bottomless pits of energy, and experienced owners to continue the work that has started.
SLINKY is a rather handsome dark sandy/poley hob who's 1 -2 years old. He arrived with a large open abcess on his back haunch, which has healed beautifully. Recently castrated, he still hasn't quite calmed down enough to try with anyone, but he seems desperate for company, so I don't think it will be long.
All adults are neutered before they are rehomed, and we ask anyone adopting kits to arrange for them to be neutered once they have matured, as we do not rehome ferrets for breeding.
If you feel you could offer some of our ferrets a forever home, please contact us.
We ask for a donation of £35 for a single ferret (to go with another), £65 for a pair. Kits under 5 months are £20 and £35 for a pair. If a ferret is going to go with another one, we like you to bring your ferret here so we can try them with their new friend so we have a good idea that it’s going to work.
We also like to home-check all new owners before agreeing to rehome any ferrets so as to make sure their new home will be suitable and safe for them (we have provided some useful information on housing and ferret proofing your home to help you make sure you and your ferrets are safe).
